Fireworks

Last night's fireworks were the best I have had ever seen..best like, there was a continuous display of fireworks" coming into" my air space from Pujut 4. About 15 minutes before midnight, the sounds of firecrackers and fireworks already started. The surrounding area sounded as if it was it was in a war-torn area especially when the mothers or fathers of all crackers sounded like bombs. My mind quickly wandered to Iraq where the people are constantly hearing the explosions of bombs. Thank goodness that here, it's only during Chinese New Year that we get to hear the 'EXPLOSIONS'.
Watching the fireworks from my balcony,I saw the changing skyline from colourful to smoky. Millions of ringgits must have been burnt into making the sky as it was like night..colourful & smoky. My immediate neighbours even though 2 own supermarkets, one owns a goldsmith shop & the other one owns a famous photo studio did not even light a sparkler...so lokek one!(stingy)

This morning as it is already a habit, having breakfast at home is like not having breakfast at all. So we went looking for coffeshops that were opened and found a few coffeshops at Pelita commercial Centre were opened including QQ. We had roti canai at the mamak's kopi shop near Pelita Hai Ma. It's good once in a while to eat at a mamak's kedai kopi. The place was packed and quite a lot of Chinese were seen eating there. Infact, mamak's kedai kopi now are popular with the Chinese except the Ibans have not quite acquired the taste for mamak's food. After breakfast we went to Pujut corner market to get some pork. Years ago,it was hard to find pork on CNY because only the Chinese sold pork then but not so,now. We have Iban & Orang Ulu butchers selling pork now.
I have to go now........Kongsi Fa Cai..Kong Hee Fatt Choy!

Kenny & Mandy (Amy Salon's owner's son & daughter inlaw)

Kenny & Mandy

Mr. & Mrs. Leong, all smiles as they welcome their guests.

Mr. & Mrs. Leong Su Kang, all the way from Vancouver to attend their nephew's wedding. Uncle Su Kang's my late dad's buddy and we're neighbours when we stayed at the Shell Lodges in Lutong.

A photo taken of me together with Uncle Su Kang & wife.

The wedding/marriage vows were done at Imperial Hotel Ballroom conducted by Pastor Cian. I have got this feeling that the Pastor's an old classmate of mine during secondary school. I have to check with Mary Kuan. It was a buffet style reception; angpow respectfully declined with thanks. Guests mainly made up of relatives & regular customers of Amy Hair Salon.

Bbuurrpp!! What's that pungent smell?

Ever been on a plane/car or enclosed room where somebody who had eaten durian suddenly belched/burped? Errgghh! Not even the most expensive perfume sprayed into the air couldwipe away the pungent smell of a by product of digested/indigested durian. Come across a question somewhere which goes like this: What fruit is shaped like hedgehog & smells like compost? Apuuu!!!How could people say such thing about the KING of fruits? I have not known any of the famous food tasters of Travel & Living Channel who likes durian. That guy who boasted he could eat all the bizzare foods in the world including the sago worms 'vomitted' when the 'creamy custard like' flesh of the durian entered his tongue.
Just imagine..if the orang putih like durian, then there would be durian ice cream on sale at Marks & Spark's, durian cheesecake sold at Sainsbury's ,durian fresh cream fillings on the all time favourite chocolate eclairs at Bentall's in Kingston Upon Thames or at that small bakery/cake shop at Surbiton. The aroma from the durian filling the air as one walks leisurely, window shopping along Oxford Street...durian flavoured chocs sold at Harrod's and durian flavoured kopi at Waterloo train station. Ya,just imagine!

The reason behind this posting is,about 2 days ago, Joe (Joe who? Uchak Jusip lah..ya,) sent a text: "I just saw durians on sale in London."
Wonder how the orang putih sell the durians in London?" Probably wearing mask covering the nose. The price,no doubt, would probably be prohibitively expensive.
My reply was:"They( the durians) must be expensive. If you want to offend your friends, just eat durian, then belch/burp in front of them and see their reactions. Excuse me..Bbbuurrpp!"
See how far your friends 'flee' after the emission of the durian gas. ha..ha..

Not that many durians in Miri..saw a van or two hawkering outside RHB near Boulevard Commercial Centre.

Ever tried durian jam? Nyamai...
