On 15th June,Kate & I made our way to Oxford. We bought the 1 Day Travelcard which costs 6.50 quids & with that ticket we could travel by the Underground Tube to take us to Victoria Station where we could board a coach heading to Oxford. There are plenty of buses or coaches going to Oxford in every few minutes. It seems to be a very popular destination. Of course there is another option..to travel by train to Oxford from Paddington Train Station but it would cost more. Anyway, travelling there by bus would be better..more things to see. The ticket to Oxford by bus costs 16 quids day-return & the journey takes about 1 1/2 hrs depending on the traffic.
I have always loved my two years spent there taking my diploma. The place is ancient & full of history but what makes Oxford forever stay dear to my heart is the fact that I 'grew' up there. The 'Growing Up" years from age 17+ to age 19+ were spent in Oxford. Over the span of two years I had made a lot of friends. Lots of good memories shared with friends & to this day, through Facebook I have come to reconnect with most of them.
The last time I went to Oxford was in August 1988. The University Colleges are still as I can remember but of course there are additional shops along the way especially so, along Cowley Road. The residential houses where students like us used to rent are still there and they still look the same. The Oxford College Of Further Education has been renamed Oxford Cherwell Valley College. The front portion of the college where it used to house the canteen where I spent a good many happy hours there with course mates while waiting for classes to begin was in the process of demolition.
The 'walking down memory lane' on 15th June in Oxford could have been more meaningful if one or two friends who went with me had walked down the lane with me before. A friend,Dahlia Rosly went there a few days after me. How I wish we had gone there together.
So much about Oxford..I doubt very much if I could ever go there again. I guess I have or rather I am ever so thankful that I could & able to see Europe,London & Oxford. The 18 day hols were splendid..I tried hard not to sleep during the day time so I could see & digest as much as I could. It was a good thing to go during summer because the days are longer. Even at @10.00pm the sky was still very bright;people were just coming out to enjoy whatever entertainment there
