some more photos

Pak, harap-harap gambar Unduk Ngadau yang bapak ambil tu, untuk Ibu,bukan untuk bapak,ya.

Sapa bilang gadis Iban tidak bajik????

Pama kaban aku ngambar sida kumang, keligit & unduk ngadau...................

Ree,look....somebody's girlfriend is falling asleep.
Ree,being Ree,smsed me: "Somebody's girlfriend is sitting at my table."
Ree's table & mine were next to each other..so I looked across.
Guess who I saw..the poor lady in the picture who was nodding off to sleep after a long day from Sg Asap. Good for her since 'Boyfriend' got off early and left the very married men to enjoy themselves.
The 2 very bachelors who were with us were glued to their seats unlike the very married ones who posed non stop with the kumangs, keligits & the Unduk Ngadau. After a few attempts, Flo managed to clear the photo taking session to make way for the dancing.

Oh ya..Melissa Francis also sang last night.

Ricki Andrewson berkikis bulu betis...He can sing very well.

Story telling:
Some bits and pieces that I forgot to mention in Part One.
Oh ya..another VIP that I forgot to mention who was present was Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi.
There was a friendly golf tournament earlier in the day and he sponsored the prizes. Sultan Ribang ( not relation to any sultan dead or alive..just an Iban guy) won 3rd place while the other 2 placings went to the visiting Kadazan golfers.
The MC,Florince Christy did a good job that night. Like in any function, one needs to do some 'ice breaking'..Flo did it by speaking Kadazan and of which she got a big round of applause from the audience especially from the Kadazans. Good job,Flo..boleh cari makan.Nice pantuns as well. It is good to be multi-lingual and to give a little bit of this & that....giving and taking things in small dosages makes one yearns for more.
For once,we're spared on the Safety briefing..I think we're also spared the Safety briefing during last week church dinner. I guess it's because non oil & gas people were holding the mikes. It's okay to do the safety briefing but don't dwell tooooooo looooooooog on it.
Going 'overboard' or being 'generous' with words have their pitfalls.

If ever DCCI & KCCI organise another celebration like this, please GO!

That's about all the photos I could take cos my memory card was full.

OOOOHHHHH.What a nite!!!!

L-R: D,Santok,Rosnani,Muk & Angking

DayakChamber ofCommerce & Industry & Kadazan-DusunChamber of Commerce & Industry together held a Gawai-Kaamatan Celebration at Imperial Hotel Ballroom last night,28/6/2008. This year,DCCI played host and the guest of honour wasTan Sri Bernard Dompok. His wife,Puan Sri Diana was also present. Some other VIPs from Sabah came but I didnot quite get their names. The Iban VIPs who were present included Tan Sri Leo Moggie & Puan Sri Elizabeth,Datuk Joseph Salang & Datin Lucy,Datuk & Datin Daniel Tajem & a few others. Mind you,Ibans have quite or more than our fair share of VIPs.
D & I were invited by Angking to the dinner last night and..ooohh..what a night!!
On reaching the foyer of the ballroom,a lot of unfamiliar faces were seen walking about, mostly in black costumes so I assumed that they had to be from Sabah. The President of KCCI in his speech later, said about 200 Kadazans came for the function, most of them drove all the way from Kota Kinabalu to Miri. Oh yes,you can drive from KK to Miri via Brunei. Some said it took them 10hours or less..
The first joint Gawai & Kaamatan celebration was held at Penampang last year and they had a great time there according to the present President of DCCI,Datuk Ujang and he hoped that the celebration organised last night was as successful & entertaining as last year's. I must say, the DCCI members put in a LOT of effort in making the celebration something for us to talk about. The President of KCCI made quite an earful of a speech for the waibees to ponder on, us & all to hear.We clapped on the things he said. He touched on a lot of things that were/are currently happening as being 'unreasonable', the grievances & disparities( topics that we could get heated up with but with us,it's only discussed at kopi shop level). SALUTE!!SALUTE to him. A BLUNT speech indeed, even .................admitted it when it was his turn to speak. Way to go...KCCI President.

Telajan Luyoh was the Organising Chairman and the MC for the night was Florince Christy and for a short while a guy from Bintulu chipped & chirped in to comment a bit here and there.
Dayak business men & women put up stalls at the foyer selling beads & handicrafts. Guests were greeted by the 'taboh' played by a combination of Sebugey,Kenyalang & Semadi Nadai Band Temaga' members. The ballroom was packed;as usual there was a mad rush for tickets.

For a change,a silver box filled with some chocolates was placed on the table for us to eat. The chocolates were made by Helong Ajang..in Kuching. Yeah, for those of you who like the chocs, please let me know if & when you like to order. Believe me,they taste as good as Cadbury's,Lindts, or Thorntons'.

guests of Angking

Tan Sri Bernard Dompok,Datuk Ujang & Datuk Joseph Salang after Tan Sri delivered his speesh.

Band called Anak Temuai...they played very well especially the lead guitarist.
My only dissatisfaction about them: They were never ever ready when the MC called them to play. She had to call for them several times and so much time was wasted while waiting for them to reappear.

Ree , the mother of Helong Ajang who made the chocolates that we ate last night.
It was good to be in the same party with Ree..brought back the 'fun' in me. For the first time,I joined in the poco-poco dance. I know..I know...what I said about Poco-poco. I am now swallowing the things I said about poco-poco and the people who adore poco-poco.
Thought I didn't know the poco-poco steps?? Well, sometime 2 weeks ago,at Karina's house,Noria taught us the steps..students included:Audrey,Cath(stopped after a few turns),me,Angela,Lyn & Cecilia. So last night, testing the steps and I was in between Ree & Cikgu Mathew Benson. They're both good dancers.

The Miring

How could I not dance when Velvet of AF4 was entertaining. Yes, she was 'ordered' to sing at the dinner. Percayalah!!!! RM__K....Ka-ching!!

Christopher Sawan & his staff all the way from BSB struggling in getting the instruments ready .....something about the way you look tonight

Yes,something about the way the beauties look tonight that take the men's breath away..
The UndukNgadau Pesta Kaamatan 2008

The finalists for this year's Pesta Kaamatan were 'showcased' last night.

VIPs are just like us,mere mortal who just wanna have fun..FUN..

Sighting of Elvis? One ..wait..2..what 3 Elvis??? Yes, 3 ELVISES were simultaneously sighted at the Imperial Hotel Ballroom. You don't have to go to Vegas to watch Elvis impersonators gyrating...they were all shook up,not in their blue suede shoes but black& white leather shoes.
L-R: ELvince(Vincent Ragam),Elrey(Reynolds Gregory) & Elval( Valentine Tawi)

Need I say more???FUN people.

Elvises...

Velvet: Masih lagi mahu poco-poco? Saya nyanyikan sebuah lagu Iban.

Semua mesti menari,ok.
Apalagi..with my 'sister in crime' at hand,we danced poco-poco.

Bujang Lelinggai.....amat pandai iya belagu...

We went back about 2.30am & woke up at 6.00am to prepare maggi mee for a visitor who went back to samu. Then to church...sleepy..sleepy.
If you are wondering who got the fridge for the lucky draw..indu arab ari Oman bulih peti ais.
Good for you,Norina.
