Here's a bit of story telling for you boys & girls....:
A few Gawais ago in Samu,an American guy by the name of Gary who claimed that he worked for NASA in the US visited Samu with his friend who happened to come from the longhouse. Remember,it's Gawai,so there was a lot of merry making,drinking &getting to know you session. So Gary sat with a group of men,Dulles included, & everybody somehow with the help of Stella,Tiger,Heineken & Johnny Walker,all could speak English very well. Gary could get everybody to talk & laugh. Just a few spaces away from the rowdy group,a man was seen & heard laughing so Gary started this kind conversation:
Gary: What's his name? (pointing to the man who was seen smiling & laughing)
Joe : Frogman
Gary:Frogman? oh you mean he's a diver.
Joe: No,not a diver...catch frogs..frog man.
Gary:oh,he catches frogs...for a minute I thought he's a diver.
Ha..ha..ha..enda salah ga tudah Gary nyangka Frogman nya diver laban bala Iban maioh kerja ke offshore. Enda tentu jauh ga penalam ai Paku and the deep blue sea...sama chiru ai. ha..ha..
It wasn't wrong for Gary to think that frogman was a diver afterall a lot of Ibans go offshore to work. Between the deep blue sea & Sg. Paku,the depth of the water makes little difference. One can always take a dive at the Paku River & get to be called a diver.
What happened to Gary? Gary had a nice time in Samu..I think he came back and even wrote letters to Jatan & sent some photocopies of Samu & the surroundings as seen from Google Earth.
Then,Google Earth was unheard of...now that brings to mind..Who's Gary?...besides being a man from NASA.
What happened to the rowdy crowd?
Everybody laughed....amat ga laban ba orang putih enti 'frogman' iya nya diver.
Somebody else said that Frog man was not only a frog man but a 'reptile' man because he also caught all kinds of reptiles as well.
What happened to Frog man?
He died almost two years ago. May his soul rest in peace.
