May Day ! May Day!

Apoooo!!!!tengah malam tu kitai betukar bulan..bulan 5. Ti aku nemu leka pantun Bulan ka aku nulis ditu. Amat enda berasai ari.
It is with great sadness that the news we,Sarawkians in particular, received yesterday evening about the passing of the beloved wife of the Chief Minister of Sarawak. Politics aside, I had the chance to see her several years ago at the Waterfront Cafe,Hilton Hotel when her daughter inlaw + cucu & her were having Hi Tea. I was coming down the stairs and was about to enter the cafe & I stopped when I realised who that 'sweet smiling lady' was. She gave me the sweetest smile possible. My mum has fond memories of the time spent together with her while they were accompanying their husbands on official functions. May she rest in peace.

Do you all realise this??When Gawai /Hari Raya/Chinese New Year is approaching, one would hear some longhouse or house belonging to the particular race celebrating the festival would have their house/longhouses burnt/burned? Ti maia ka begawai, bala rumah kitai Iban ga berita bisi angus tau ke tinggang penusah. Ti maia Hari Raya tau ke Taun Baru Cina, rumah bala tu ga angus. amat angat meh menua.!!!!

Nama agi cerita aku ke pagi tu? What else to blog about???
I have to go for now..my kopi friends are calling me to have kopi with them.

Gosh! It's 1st of May tomorrow...time is fast & furious! SIDS Miri will be having a Pra Gawai dinner tomorrow at Han's Palace,Grand Palace Hotel..then on 16th May there is the Divisional Gawai night at Eastwood Valley golf & Country Club. On the same night, there is the other gawai celebration at Kpg Lusut. Gawai..Gawai.. Oh I love the month of May. Oh ya,there is also the Mother's Day dinner on 9th May at Mega Hotel organised by the Zone 3 Anglican Women Fellowship in aid of the Bishop's House Restoration Fund. Also,on 16th of May, the 1st wedding Invitation for the year 2009, a church wedding & reception for Remy,2nd daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Christopher Sawan to be held also at Eastwood Valley.

I remember last year, friends were envious of me because I got invited to quite a number of weddings & engagement dinners. So for 2009,this is my 1st invitation & I hope many more engagement dinners & weddings to follow after this one. I heard one at the end of June, another in July. oh..oh..I cannot wait to see friends becoming parents inlaws or grandparents.

Facebook

Hi..hi..hi...
Somebody was commenting that there's nothing "NEW" on Sebugey when she visited my blog. Ya,it's true..I do not know what to blog about. I have been busy 'Facebook-ing' most times for the past few days poking fun at the friends I meet in Cyberspace even though some of them are just a stone-throw away from where I live.
The amazing thing about Facebook is that a friend who used to go to the same college as I did in Oxford managed to track or find me in FB. His name is Mior Ahmad Ramdzan,an architect by profession who lives in Ipoh. The last time I saw Mior was in the summer of 1979 when all of us made our different ways to our respective destinations in life. So Mior the Mr. Nice Guy, contacted the other friends who used to study in Oxford and now I have quite a number of them added to my list of friends in FB. It's SO GOOD to be able to 'reconnect' with them with the usual Frequently Asked Questions like "How are you? Berapa orang anak? Isteri? Kerja kat mana? Pernah datang ke Miri?Bila nak pergi KL? Where is so & so..?"
Mior,if you are reading this...Thank You my good friend for your friendship! I cannot recall when Sim & I first talked to you. We always smiled at each other each time you guys boarded the red double decker bus NO. 501/ 502 from Crown Street heading to Oxpens Road. It could be along the corridors of the college or the cafeteria, or on our way to the city centre when Sim & I got to know you & we had problem pronouncing your name & you kept repeating it until we got it said & pronounced correctly. Ha..ha..
I have got to go.......

BETONG

Mini Putrajaya....
The Administrative Precinct
The town centre

Betong Plaza Hotel

On our way to & from Samu we made a stop at Betong. Most times when we went to Betong, they were made on Gawai eve...not much sightseeing could be done because it's people-seeing. A day or two before Gawai would be a good time to 'jejak kasih' on the narrow streets of Betong & the likelihood that you bump into old friends is extremely high. The town square is still as it has been but outside the square..much,more & many progress & development can be seen.

Pekan Lachau...

The 'Atomium" ala Lachau

She ain't heavy..she's my sister/friend.

The many faces of people....

He ain't heavy..he's my brother/son

These nice carvings greet people who make a stop either to buy the goods on sale there or for a toilet stop. I thought they're quite interesting to look at..wonder who the craftsman/men were...with such creativity & imagination...lots of both as I can see from the details..if you know what I mean.

Since it was the long weekend,we decided to go back to Samu to see the folks there because it had been quite a while since we last visited them..about 2 gawais ago. D's nephew drove us there after the Good Friday service at St. Basil's Church in the morning. The ride took a good 4 1/2hrs..we took our time...enjoying the scenery.
